May 1996 Lecture Topic

Our speaker of the evening will be Mr. J. C. Holdaway, M. A. Oxon). A microbiologist by profession, Mr. Holdaway is Chairman of the Wedgwood Society of London, a committee member of Morley College Ceramic Circle and the Spode Society, and a member of The Northern Ceramic Society, The Friends of Blue, The Derby International Porcelain Society, and The English Ceramic Circle.

His main ceramic interests are source prints for ceramic decoration on both pottery and porcelain of all kinds, particularly animals, explorers, and related subjects from 1780-1820 plus the decoration on Wedgwood creamware and bone china, both printed and painted.

Mr. Holdaway will lecture about Wedgwood Bone China of the first period, 1812-1929) including a review of known patterns and a study of the bone chinas painted by John Cutts.
