On the cover:Detail of a Wedgwood and Bentley black basalt bust of Alexander the Great,
1779 or 1780, 23” (58.4 cm) high. Impressed ALEXANDER and Wedgwood & Bentley on the
back of the bust and WEDGWOOD & BENTLEY on the base. This previously unrecorded bust
is a copy of a marble bust in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. Collection of a member of the
Wedgwood Society of New York.
